Gone are the days of screaming toddlers and grumpy husbands. Family photos are supposed to be fun, engaging and enjoyable. If the kids are struggling we'll pause the shoot and see if we can have some fun for a minute. I always try to make sure we're all smiling naturally and help direct the family into poses and activities that will result in photos you'll love to hang on your wall. We usually try to get traditional posed photos, as well as lifestyle/candid image to share online.
